Lovely historical home wirh a great restaurant. Service was attentive. Rooms were nicely decorated and immaculately clean and comfortable. Kudos to the owners! Old mansions have their infrastructure problems from plumbing to heating to noise but all have been solved to the level of our expectations of modern hotels. Bygone era charm without the bygone era inconveniences!

It was simply filthy. There was hairs and stains on the bed. It was so dusty the dust on the floor was piled up and it was literally everywhere. It was for our anniversary and my birthday and we had booked a spa day. Smelled so bad we cancelled. The spa tub was so sorry the jets were clogged as well as the shower. I do have photos of all of this. We went down right away to cancel everything and was basically ignored. She was so rude saying there's nothing she could do and we had to pay a charge to cancel the spa. There was a chunk of cheap veneer off of the tv stand (supposedly antique) The rug was so stained and dirty we kept on our shoes and kept on our clothes to sleep on top of the bed. We complained after leaving as well and was only offered 10% off of another stay!!!! It ruined my birthday and our anniversary. The pictures will explain everything. DONT STAY HERE??

We’ve eaten here many times in the past and been very impressed, but this was not the case this time. A fairly expensive restaurant with a mediocre dinner. The scallops were undercooked, the steak did not have much of a bark on it, and the lamb was tough. The potatoes were almost flavorless, and when the dessert came, it was burnt on the bottom. The staff were terrific, but the food was nowhere near the quality it once was and the cost was high.

NOT allergy safe! -BEWARE Unfortunately this establishedment is NOT sensitive to dietary/food allergies. Please be aware. Yesterday, my husband, daughter-in-law, and I came down for breakfast and it seemed chaotic with no one around to sit us. We eventually were sitted by the manager. I inquired with our friendly server about the morning buffet, to see if there was any dairy or seafood products amongst the dishes served. It took them quite a bit of time to find out if there was dairy products in any of the bread they were offering. The server said there are no labels on the bread because it comes from a "local bakery" and yet the manager says it's from a "grocery store" … which one is it? We were served the kraft little packages of strawberry jelly that would be served at a local truckstop, the breakfast EVERY morning is scrambled eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns with a choice of cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple and grapes (no berries) and little cubes of cheese, and the typical yogurt items that you would find at a Holiday Inn. What has me upset is that yesterday I was told that the eggs were safe and they were not cooked in butter but this morning apparently after I had started eating, the same waitress as yesterday seen me and immediately went to the kitchen and asked if the eggs were cooked in butter and the chef said yes. Apparentlv. they have more than one chef and this particular chef likes to cook with butter with his eggs. How lucky for me who has dairy allergies! So apparently, ask EVERYTIME you eat if the same food you had yesterday, contains your food allergy item. Now I get to suffer for the rest of our trip. But "lesson learnt" on my end. And I am not saying this sarcastically. It honestly was a good lesson for me to be aware of. The server was very apologetic and if it wasn't for her asking the chef afterwards (because she is the only one who knows that there's a new chef in the back kitchen, not the guests) I would of been sick without knowing why or what I ate that made me react. Thank you. Also, on a sidenote, the peanut butter is amongst the ketchup and the butter with one knife available amongst it all and there is a VERY high possibility of cross-contamination, and there is salmon, amongst the fruit as well as dairy cubes, mixed in with the grapes. i noticed our bill at checkout, had several charges and gratitudes that were accidentally charged to our room. But they were removed on the same invoice. As for the accommodations, the Victorian home is as you would expec…. beautiful but unfortunately, unlike Langdon Hall Inn in Cambridge Ontario, it does not have any common rooms to relax in. It was also incredibly loud from the Christmas party that they hosted and a very congested entranceway with a tiny little check-in desk crammed up against the staircase. The bedding is incredibly sparse, and the heating system is nonexistent as you constantly have to get up throughout the night to turn it on or off and it is incredibly dry heat. The mattress comfort has left my husband with a very sore back from the past two nights. The front desk staff has always been incredibly pleasant and professional. Every time I called, and even when we arrived. Cleaning staff is equally very pleasant and accommodating. My husband ordered a beautiful bouquet from the florist that they recommend and it is exceptionally beautiful! All in all, not worth returning or recommending due to the unsafe food environment. Not worth the risk.

It was brought to our attention that the stepson of the original owner was haunting guests at this hotel. Upon investigation, many of the staff have had encounters with a ghost but nobody knew anything about the stepson. Not his name, nor what he looked like. Fortunately we were able to find his name and picture, Olaf Rechnitzer. We attempted to contact Olaf with our hi-tech gear and detected something on the fourth floor. Also the window opened by itself, which we still have no explanation for. Another report told us that they charge seniors extra here. Upon investigation, we can confirm this is false. Seniors get 10% off. In conclusion, this establishment is likely haunted (and seniors are welcome). - The Ghost Bros
